PHOENIX, AZ – RedSky Fire Apparatus, a fire apparatus and ambulance dealer serving Arizona, southern Nevada and New Mexico, is pleased to announce that Sun City Fire Department has purchased a new 1,500-gpm, stainless steel pumper from Custom Fire Apparatus, Inc. of Osceola, WI. The department placed the order in January 2012, and delivery is scheduled for June 2012.
“We were looking for a pumper with significant firefighting capability and compartmentation, combined with a roomy cab, great visibility and excellent maneuverability. Custom Fire was able to work with us to package this in a compact design with a short wheelbase and overall length,” explained Chief James Haner, Sun City Fire Department.

Continued Featherstone, “Thanks to Chief Haner, Battalion Chief Mike Thompson, and the Sun City Fire Board for their confidence in RedSky and Custom Fire.” The stainless steel CustomFIRE side-mount pumper features 500-gallon water capacity, two-stage Waterous CMU 1,500-gpm pump, FoamPro 3012/200-cfm CAFS system with six CAFS-capable discharges, two speedlays, remote-control TFT deck gun, and hydraulic ladder rack. This pumper features a lifetime warranty on the body, underbody support structure and water tank cradle.
The new pumper is built on a Spartan Gladiator EMFD chassis with a 450-hp Cummins ISL engine, Allison EVS 3000 transmission, Telma retarder, six-person seating with air ride captain’s and forward-facing crew seats, 187-inch wheelbase, 17″ disc brakes on both the front and rear, and cramp angles of 48 degrees and 44 degrees to the left and right respectively.
The warning and lighting package features Whelen LED warning light package, Whelen Freedom light bar, DOT LED lighting package, OptiCom and Q2B siren. The pumper will be painted white with a red roof to match Sun City’s existing fleet. Tom Harley, RedSky vice president of sales, is the sales representative.
