The Springfield (OH) Fire Department pushed into service new Engine 5 during a ceremony at the old Station 5, 1707 Commerce Road, recently, the department said in a Facebook post.
It is the second of three new pumpers for the city, springfieldnewssun.com reported.
After speeches by Chief Jacob King and Senior Firefighter Rob Baise, Chaplain Joe Kelley blessed the engine.
Water was drawn from the old engine, which passed through a chain of seniority to the junior most firefighter, Seth Cosby, who put the first water in the booster tank.
Then firefighters, assisted by City Commissioner Dr. David Estrop, washed the wheels, and pushed the engine into the apparatus bay. This new engine, a Rosenbauer Commander, will be based at the old Station 5 for the next year while the new Station 5 is being built on Thompson Avenue.
Last month, Springfield took delivery of a Sutphen Monarch pumper, Engine 4. Engine 4 will operate out of Station 4, 1565 Lagonda Avenue.
