The Schell-Vista Fire Protection District has purchased a new Pierce pumper to replace an older truck, sonomanews.com reported.
The engine was bid at $940,000 in 2022, but since Schell-Vista was able to pay in cash it received a $60,000 reduction, the report said.
The pumper will be used for wildland urban interface responses.
This engine has a short wheelbase for optimal drivability on all terrains including steep mountain roads and highways, the district said in a Facebook post. The compartment beside the pump panel includes a whiteboard for the engineer. Pump and roll capabilities allow for their firefighters to walk alongside the apparatus while flowing a handline. Ground ladders are deployed from a hydraulic ladder rack to optimize compartment capacity.
