Scandia (MN) Fire and Rescue welcomed the new Engine 1 to replace the old Engine 1 that is turning 25 this year, the department said in a Facebook post recently.
New Engine 1 has many safety upgrades along with functional and mechanical improvements, the post said. These will not only make driving safer, but will also improve safety and increase efficiency on the fireground.
The department celebrated the occasion with the long-standing fire tradition of ‘pushing in’ the new pumper. This tradition dates back decades to when the engine was pushed into the hall because they were horse-drawn at the time and it was challenging for a horse to back up the engine.
“We recognized past, present, and future by having three push-ins,” the post said. “One for firefighter retirees, one for current firefighters, and one for firefighter families.
“We want to thank our past and present mayors and city council, city staff, our incredible City of Scandia, Minnesota Community, our Elim Lutheran Church pastor and so many more… for entrusting us with this piece of equipment. It is an honor to serve our community and this engine will play a pivotal role of our future successes.”
