The Rockport Volunteer Fire Department announced recently the purchase of two new, identical frontline engines, the department said in a Facebook post. Engine 1 and Engine 2 are both 2025 Spartan custom chassis models and will replace a 2008 Spartan (E1) and 1998 Ford (E5), which have become increasingly expensive to maintain.
“Purchasing these two engines at this time was a crucial decision due to the increasing cost of fire apparatus,” the post said. “By making this investment now, we are avoiding even higher costs in the future and ensuring our community continues to have the equipment necessary for top-tier emergency response.”
This $1.3 million investment will save the department a significant amount over the next 10 years in maintenance and repair costs while ensuring that the department has reliable, state-of-the-art equipment to serve and protect the community.
The 1998 Ford engine was costing the department $50,000 a year in maintenance and repairs, kiiitv.com reported.
The department expects to take delivery of the new engines in December 2025.
“This achievement was only possible because of your continued financial support, in conjunction with our annual city capital funds, water tap ordinance, letter drive, and the many local fundraising events, including generous contributions from local businesses that have helped us save over the past decade,” the post said. “However, our work is not done. Outfitting these new engines with essential tools and equipment is our next challenge, and with the communities continuing support we will ensure they are fully equipped and ready to serve when they arrive.
“The quality of our equipment directly reflects our ability to protect Rockport, and we could not have made this step forward without your ongoing support. Thank you for standing with us. We look forward to providing an exceptional service to this community.”
