Recently, the Demarest Fire Department donated its 1977 Mack CF Pumper to the FDNY Family Transport Foundation. The members of the Demarest Fire Department had requested permission from the mayor and council to make the donation, and the governing body agreed unanimously to allow the donation to happen. Unfortunately, the borough attorney advised against it if the pumper had any monetary value. The fire truck was placed on an online auction site, where the members of the fire department agreed to enter the bidding process if needed. During the last hour of bidding, a very tense bidding war began. At the final moment, the Demarest firefighters won the bid, spending $8600.00 of their own money to purchase the pumper and make the donation. On August 20, Chief John McLoughlin and Association President Jeff Bellusci presented the title to FDNY Family Foundation President James McCarthy at a small ceremony at fire headquarters.
