Engine 131 was placed in service with the Farmers Branch (TX) Fire Department in October 2014. The fire truck is built on a Pierce Dash CF cab and chassis with seating for four. A Coleman Mach 8 A/C-Heating unit is mounted on the cab roof and connects to a shoreline above the left front wheel. The fire apparatus is constructed of aluminum with full-depth compartments and AMDOR roll-up doors. Two hatch compartments are on board, with one hopper holding oil absorbent with a chute that runs through the driver’s side rear compartment.
The apparatus is powered by a Cummins ISL9 450-hp engine and an Allison GEN IV 3000 EVS five-speed transmission with pushbutton controls. The TAK-4 Independent Front Suspension System is featured as is the Pierce Command Zone advanced electronic and control system. A Harrison 4.8-kW hydraulic generator is carried in a cargo area on the officer’s side.
This unit has a Pierce PUC single-stage, midship 1,500-gpm pump with PUC pump-and-roll capability and a 500 gallon UPF poly tank. The monitor mounted in the hosebed is an Elkhart Vulcan RF Electric Monitor (with radio remote control) and an Elkhart SM Nozzle. The hosebed can accommodate 1,000 feet of five-inch LDH, 500 feet of three-inch hose, and 250 feet of 2.5-inch hose. A booster reel equipped with 200 feet of one-inch/800-psi hose is located in the rear tailboard compartment along with 150 feet of 1.75-inch hose in the front bumper tray connected to a 1.5-inch discharge on the right front bumper. Crosslays (one with a 2.5-inch discharge and two with 1.5-inch discharges) are located in an enclosed compartment behind the cab adjacent to the pump panel.
Warning lights include a Whelen Freedom LED light bar on the cab along with Freedom 24-inch light bars over each crew door. Whelen M6 LED lights adorn the apparatus body. Scene lighting is provided by Fire Research and Whelen lights. Audio warning devices include a Federal Q2B siren mounted on the left front bumper and a Whelen Model 295SCSL1 electronic siren connected to two Whelen SA315P 100-watt speakers mounted through the front bumpers.
