The Chico Fire Department placed a new pumper in service recently, the department said in a Facebook post.
City council members, dignitaries, and fire personnel were on hand to perform a traditional “push in ceremony” and place the engine in service.
The new Engine 2 is replacing an apparatus which is nearly 10 years old, the post said. Within those years of service, the old Engine 2 responded to tens of thousands of emergencies and logged over 115,000 miles. Chico Engine 2 is consistently one of the busiest engine companies in Northern California. The engine serves the heart of Chico, including Downtown, University, Avenues and North Chico neighborhoods. Engine 2 responds out of Station 2, located on East Fifth Avenue, directly adjacent to Enloe Hospital.
Engine 2 was specially designed for the City of Chico.
