Birch Run Township (MI) FD Engine Hit at I-75 Accident Scene

The Birch Run Township (MI) Fire Department was blocking one lane of traffic with an apparatus at an accident scene on Interstate 75 Thursday, March 6, when its rig got hit from behind, midmichigannow.com reported.

All fire personnel was inside the apparatus at the time of the accident and no injuries were reported, the report said. The driver of the vehicle that struck the fire apparatus was evaluated at the scene. 

The collision caused significant damage to the rig, which is now out of service, according to the report. A fire official said $17,000 worth of equipment in the back of the rig must be replaced.

“Birch Run and Clio Fire responded for a semi accident on I-75 for traffic control,” the Birch Run Township Fire Department said in a Facebook post. “While on scene Birch Run Engine 1 was struck by a vehicle. All fire personnel was inside the truck at the time of the accident and no injuries were reported to any firefighters. Please slow down and move over.”
