Bedford County Fire Department has taken delivery of a new pumper, which will replace a 34-year-old model at one of the department’s volunteer stations, the county said in a Facebook post Tuesday, March 11.
The new rig was built by Rosenbauer America in South Dakota. It cost $485,000 and has an estimated 20-year lifespan, according to Fire Chief Mark Thomas and Assistant Fire Chief Brian Cantrell. On Tuesday, Thomas and Cantrell brought the new truck to the county courthouse, where County Mayor Chad Graham and commissioners Greg Vick and John Boutwell got a closer look at it.
The apparatus has a 1,500 gallon-per-minute (gpm) pump and a 1,000-gallon water tank.
The new pumper is part of the county’s ongoing effort to protect lives and property in Bedford County, said Graham, whose own background is in emergency services.
