Photos and Description by Lindsay Dye

Engine 1 was placed into service with the Allen (TX) Fire Department on November 12, 2017. The cab/chassis is a Pierce Arrow XT model with seating for six and a forward-facing EMS cabinet. A Coleman Mach 3 AC unit (13,500 Btu) mounted over the center of the cab area provides auxiliary temperature control when the apparatus is not in use. The apparatus is constructed of stainless steel with full depth compartments and Gortite roll-up doors. SCBA storage is located adjacent to the rear wheel wells.

Power is provided by a Detroit DD13 470 HP engine and an Allison 4000 EVS six-speed transmission with pushbutton controls. The TAK-4 Independent Front Suspension System is featured as is the Pierce Command Zone advanced electronic and control system.

The apparatus has a Pierce single-stage, 1,500-gpm pump with the standard PUC pump-and-roll feature along with a 500-gallon polypropylene tank. Foam capability is provided by a Husky 3 System with a 20-gallon cell along with a Hercules Compressed Air Foam System. Foam is plumbed to the front jump line, the lower 1¾-inch crosslays and the booster reel.

The hosebed carries 800 feet of 5-inch LDH, a 200-foot lay of 3-inch hose and two 200-foot lays of 2½-inch hose. The front bumper tray carries 150 feet of 1¾-inch hose connected to a 1½-inch discharge on the left center of the bumper. Crosslays (two with 200 feet each of 1¾-inch hose and one with 200 feet of 2-inch hose) are located in an enclosed compartment behind the cab. Three sections of 5-inch LDH and one section of 2½-inch hose are stored in a lower left compartment, and a booster reel with 100 feet of ¾-inch hose is mounted on top of the pump panel. This unit features a hydraulic ladder rack on the right side of the apparatus that carries Duo-Safety ladders (24-foot two-section, 14-foot roof, and 10-foot folding). A Little Giant ladder is stored in the compartment above the right rear wheel well.

Warning lights include a Whelen Freedom IV-Q LED Lightbar (72-inch) and Whelen M6 and M7 LED lights on the apparatus body. Scene lighting is provided by Whelen Pioneer PCPSM1 lights mounted behind the crew doors and opposite the rear steps with two PCPSM2 lights on each side of the body. Whelen Pioneer PFS2 lights are on the cab brow. Audio warning devices include a Federal Q2B siren (recessed) on the left bumper area and a Whelen Model 295SLSA1 electronic siren module connected to two Whelen SA315P 100 watt speakers mounted through the front bumper.
