Port Royal (SC) is moving forward with a purchase of a new fire truck to replace one stolen by a man who struck and killed a pedestrian with it last year.
Port Royal Town Council is expected to vote on it Oct. 9. Officials received a bid for of $445,000 from Pierce Manufacturing this summer.
In August, council gave town manager Van Willis permission to continue negations with the manufacturer. Willis and Beaufort-Port Royal Fire Chief Sammy Negron said that price could be reduced by about $15,000 through financing.
However, the new truck would not come until about March.
