Pleak (TX) VFD Raising Money for Fire Apparatus

Pleak Volunteer Fire Department (TX) volunteers are trying to think of methods to raise money for a new fire apparatus after a May 11 Emergency Services District election failed, one that would have funded new equipment, like a desperately-needed tanker.

They know they will probably receive a grant on the order of $140,000 from the Texas Forest Service.

Those funds will go to replace a rusted-out tanker that is more than 15 years old.

But that still leaves about $56,000 that is needed to make the purchase and the department needs to come up with just about every penny of it.

With few, if any, hydrants in the coverage area the department hopes to procure a 2,000-gallon tanker to go along with two other useable department apparatuses.

The department responded to 225 calls in 2011 and about the same number in 2012, though this year the department finds itself at least two months ahead of that response rate.

The department’s fund-raising committee is considering a benefit event with rodeo, live and silent auctions, a concert, a kids’ zone fun area and barbecue cookoff.

Anyone interested in helping the Pleak Fire Department is asked to call 281-342-3692 or call Chief Gania, 281-594-0013.
