The first Platteville Fire Department pumper engine is back with the fire department, reports SW News 4u.
The fire department had the truck for 44 years and then sold it in 1969 to a firefighter from Fort Atkinson who wanted the truck. Recently, a member of the fire department purchased the fire apparatus on an online auction after his wife noticed the posting on Facebook.
The 1921 American LaFrance truck is a Waukesha four-cylinder engine with dual ignition, equipped with eight spark plugs and a three-speed manual transmission. The truck is drivable, though with no power steering or brakes, technologies that didn’t exist back then.
