Placentia (CA) Forming Fire Department

The city of Placentia is ending its contract with the Orange County Fire Department and forming its own fire department, reports The Ocean City Register.

John “Pono” Van Gieson was hired in late January to head the city’s fledgling department, which is on track to launch July 1 with 53 full- and part-time employees, including captains, engineers, firefighters and a reserve contingent of 24 people.

Placentia’s firefighters may work from trailers temporarily so the city can make improvements to its two fire stations
