Piney River Volunteer Fire Department VA Likely to Receive Donated Fire Apparatus

The Piney River Volunteer Fire Department (VA) is expected to receive a donated fire engine from Charlottesville in the coming weeks.

The donation would significantly help the 35-firefighter agency if the members must respond simultaneously to two major calls.

Fire member Ken Wood describes the Charlottesville Fire Department truck as “highly usable.”

Charlottesville fire Battalion Chief Richard Jones said the engine they plan to donate is getting cycled out as part of their regular engine replacement schedule.

The news comes as the department prepares for its annual signature fundraiser, a chitterling supper Saturday, which annually draws about 1,200 people. If details are finalized in time, the truck may be on display at the supper.
