Smeal Fire Apparatus Pump Panel Hose Trough

A common feature on midship pump houses is open troughs in the running board to hold curb jumpers – in this case a preconnected one.  Standing on hose in an open trough to load a crosslay or access equipment is an invitation for a fall or worse yet a broken ankle.  This Smeal pumper has a hinged treadplate cover giving firefighters a firm platform to stand on.  It also keeps the hose out of inclement weather.  It’s a good idea.
