The city is spending about $1 million to buy a new aerial fire truck, which would replace a vehicle that is more than 10 years old, officials said.
Under an agreement with a purchasing cooperative in Texas, Paterson will lease the new truck for 10 years and buy it for $1 dollar at the end of that period, according to city documents. Paterson will pay $874,912 for the vehicle, plus $177,196 in interest.
Fire Chief Michael Postorino told the city council last week that the department keep the old aerial truck as a spare.
Postorino said Paterson would get the new truck next year. It will be assigned to the firehouse on Lafayette Street.
