Park Ridge (NJ) Approves Fire Apparatus Purchase

The Park Ridge Volunteer Fire Department (NJ) will take delivery of a new Piece Arrow XT pumper truck in March or April.

The Park Ridge council has authorized the purchase of a replacement for PR1, specifically a Piece Arrow XT, 4-door, single axle, 2,000 GPM, mid-mounted fire pumper truck for $561,774.54. Funding for the purchase was designated in the multi-purpose bond approved by the council on March 25 to finance capital projects in 2013.

As to the specifications, Chief Pete Mauro said each option was carefully considered and chosen to fit the specific needs of the department. He said the committee, that consisted of Mauro and four other department command officers as well as two former chiefs, met many times over the past eight months to write the specifications. “How we fight fires is built into the truck,” he said. An example of that is the type of engine in the truck. Since the truck isn’t used on highways as a rule, the engine doesn’t need to be as powerful as one that does.
