Palm Beach (FL) Considers Dual-Purpose Fire Apparatus Purchase

At its monthly meeting on Tuesday, the Town Council is scheduled to approve the purchase of a combined fire engine and aerial ladder truck known as a “quint.”

The dual-purpose truck provides the versatility of a fire engine with the added advantage of a ladder that can go 75 feet high, equipped with a nozzle able to produce a large, strong stream, the fire-rescue department said.

The price of the quint is listed at $833,000. It will replace two vehicles that will be traded in, reducing the overall cost to just under $667,000, according to Division Chief Jimmy Duane.
Delivery of the quint is expected this fall.

The change will allow the department to revise its staffing arrangement to improve its response in the North End, Duane said.
