An early morning storm in southern Oklahoma March 4 blew the roof off the Union Valley Volunteer Fire Department, kxii.com reported. With the roof gone, the walls of the station collapsed onto the department’s fleet of trucks.
According to a Facebook post by the Union Valley VFD, the station took a direct hit.
A fire official said all five trucks sustained moderate damage and have since been relocated to neighboring departments and volunteer’s homes to await repairs, the report said.
Volunteers picked up debris left behind from the storm and saved any equipment that could be salvaged, according to the report. The department is in discussion to return to limited capacity in the coming weeks once truck repairs have been made, and says plans are in the early stages to build a new station across the street from the original one, the report said.
