Oak Grove (KY) Fire Apparatus Struck on I-75

A South Carolina man was injured and an Oak Grove Fire Department (KY) truck damaged in an accident on I-75.

Early Sunday morning, the Oak Grove Fire Department responded to a minor wreck at mile marker 22 on the southbound side of Interstate 75.

While working the crash, the fire department parked the fire truck in the fast lane to block traffic for safety reasons.

Around 6:10 a.m., a small passenger car being driven by a South Carolina resident failed to yield to the emergency vehicle, striking the fire truck in the rear end.

The driver of the car had to be removed by the Jaws of Life and was transported to Baptist Health Corbin with non life-threatening injuries. No one was inside of the fire truck when the crash occurred.

“If it hadn’t been for the truck, there is no doubt in my mind that two firefighters would have been killed,” Oak Grove Fire Chief Kevin Gibbs said.
