North Rustico (Prince Edward Island) Celebrates Fire Apparatus Purchase

After four years of fundraising the community of North Rustico on P.E.I.’s North Shore has bought a new fire truck.

The old truck was 25 years old and too small to fit the fire crew and their equipment. The new truck is double the size.

“There’s lots of seating. There’s four breathing apparatus seats with the breathing apparatus built right in. More than enough room. There’s 22 compartments for all our gear,” said truck captain Dave Summerfield.

The truck also includes a back-up camera and fridge. All drivers will be trained on the new vehicle this week.

The truck cost about $200,000. The fire department raised about $150,000 and took out a loan for the rest.
