New Fire Truck for Nanaimo Fire Rescue

The city council approved the purchase of a new Type 1 Emergency vehicle, at a price of $616,785, for the Nanaimo Fire Rescue.

The new engine will replace a 27-year-old model that is being moved out of service.

The new engine is included in the city’s five-year financial plan from 2011, which allowed for the purchase of a total three new fire engines as part of a five-year supply contract with WFR Wholesale Fire & Rescue Ltd. of Calgary. The first of the new trucks arrived in August and is already in service, and has “exceeded” staff expectations. The third and last truck is scheduled to arrive in 2014.
