The facility, which will be on Beam Road, is included in the budget as part of the $20.8 million set aside for new fire facilities. The electric station is one of at least three fire facilities on the horizon; the $20.8 million is part of an estimated $48 million investment over three years, according to the report.

Charlotte will be one of the first cities in the country to make such an investment, the report says.

Officials say the budget is for one fire truck, a charging apparatus, and additional building elements to make it fully electric; more details will be available as design and development get closer.

City Council will hold another vote after the budget passes to officially authorize the purchase.
