Mt. Vernon’s New Truck Arrives

Mt.Vernon’s new, $623,000 fire truck has arrived. Firefighters were applying lettering and equipment to the truck to have the Ferrara pumper immediately ready for service.

In addition to replacing a 1983 ladder truck that was converted to a pumper, the truck‘s new features will enhance firefighting and rescue capabilities.

The truck’s flexibility in responding to a number of different emergency situations is expected to be incredibly helpful. Whether a structure fire, a hazardous material spill or a medical emergency, the “multi-vocational” features of the truck will allow firefighters to respond from one emergency to the next without necessarily having to return to a station first.

Other features include a remote-controlled, high-pressure deck nozzle, a 3,000 per minute water pump, hydraulic powered cutters and spreaders for extrications with a 100 foot reel, better positioning of load points for hoses to guard against injuries and a light system.
