The River Falls Fire headquarters have been condemned by Greenville County due to structural problems and asbestos found in the building.
River Falls provides fire protection for 32-square miles from 2,500 to 4,000 people, depending on the time of day.
The fire chief said the necessary repairs for the headquarters cost more than the department’s $89,000 annual budget.
For now, volunteers are using a Quonset hut borrowed from Parker Fire District firefighters.
