The Modesto Fire Department donated some of its used gear and equipment to a volunteer fire department in Michoacán, Mexico.
City officials said the donated gear and equipment from Modesto still is safe to use for firefighting.
Chief Mauricio Gonzalez Valenzuela of the Volunteer Firemen of Michoacán contacted the Modesto Fire Department in 2013, according to a news release. He asked the Modesto firefighters for help with outfitting his department after it lost much of its firefighting gear in an oil fire.
The donated gear and equipment included:
15 sets of structural firefighting turnouts
5 sets of wild-land gear
Axes and shovels
Assorted accessories and equipment for a fire engine or truck
