Five fire apparatus from several firefighting agencies were stranded for almost a day after responding to the scene of a fire at the Holcim cement plant in Bloomsdale, said a fire official with the Kinsey Volunteer Fire Department, ksdk.com reported.
The fire official said the fire caused the belt system on a silo to break down and fall, leaving the five fire apparatus blocked from leaving until early Tuesday afternoon, the report said. Holcim had to call in a company with special equipment to remove the debris and free the fire trucks.
Firefighting crews from multiple Missouri fire departments battled a fire at a cement plant in Ste. Genevieve County, Monday, February 17, kfvs12.com reported.
The Kinsey VFD, along with several mutual aid departments, were dispatched to Holcim for a belt on fire, the department said in a Facebook post Monday, Feb. 17.
Crews battled fires inside of a belt system and a bag house. A second alarm was struck along with a pumper task force being dispatched from Jefferson County, Missouri.
“Most of the fire was extinguished but unfortunately the belt system collapsed causing several fire trucks to be trapped behind the silo and unable to make it out (Monday night),” the post said. “Special equipment is being brought in to remove debris to free the trapped equipment and should be on scene first thing (Tuesday) morning.
