Massive Sinkhole Caves Under New York Fire Apparatus

A fire truck became mired in an enormous sinkhole that suddenly opened under its wheels at Linden Blvd. and Rockaway Parkway in East Flatbush Tuesday morning, sending two firefighters to the hospital.

An FDNY spokesperson said that the sinkhole appeared at 1235 Linden Blvd., directly in front of Brookdale Hospital.

The injured firefighters, working out of Canarsie-based Engine Co. 257, suffered minor injuries. They were sent to Kings County Hospital for treatment.

The company was not on a fire run at the time, according to FDNY.

The incident was called in at 11:07 a.m.

In November 2012, trucks from Engine 257 and Ladder 170, responding to the same 911 call, collided at Avenue J and East 103rd Street in Canarsie, causing 11 injuries, according to the New York Post.
