Manteca (CA) to Buy New Fire Apparatus

The City Council has authorized purchasing a new fire engine, reports Manteca/Ripon Bulletin.

The city is paying for the new fire engine with fire impact fees. In past years, the volunteer fire department paid for new fire equipment with dances. in 1920 the fire department bought their first fire engine – a Ford combination pump and chemical engine equipped with 1,000 feet of hoses and ladders — for $4,000.

A 2003 American La France operates as the only frontline fire engine. The engine is nearing its end of life and requires constant repair and maintenance.
