The City of Lynchburg has three new fire trucks, and a new ambulance that is being called an emergency room on wheels.
They were all on display at Fire Station 7 Wednesday. They are 2015 models and will go into service in a couple weeks.
Fire officials say the medic unit is far advanced over what they had, allowing them to give patients better care. They say it is rare to get two pumpers and a ladder truck all at once, but some trucks were way past their replacement dates.
“In 2009 and 2010 when our budgets were quite tight we got all the way down to not replacing fire apparatus, and in an effort for our replacement schedule to catch up, it was way more feasible to get 3-units. We saved quite a few dollars by doing so,” said LFD Field Battalion Chief Keith Johnson.
