LSC-Kingwood (TX) Fire Science Program Debuts New Fire Apparatus

LSC-Kingwood’s fire science program unveiled its new fire truck during the January in-service.

According to Jason DeVries, the six person emergency vehicle is equipped with six self-contained breathing apparatus, hydraulic rescue tools, and an on board electric generator. The fire truck was purchased under the Perkins Grant. It will be housed at the Harris County Fire and Sheriff Training Academy in Atascocita.

Additional features on the truck include 2,000 feet of hose, gas and electric fans, rescue and chain saws, scene lights, and nozzles. This is the program’s first firetruck and it was purchased in December 2014.

LSC-Kingwood’s fire science program is designed to meet the increasing need for firefighting services in Houston and Harris and Montgomery counties. Students will learn the skills needed to become a state certified firefighter through the study of specific techniques while working with trained professionals at Porter Fire Department and the Harris County Fire Marshal Office in Atascocita.
