Truck 166 began service in December 2018 with the Lewisville (TX) Fire Department. The cab/chassis are the Pierce Velocity model with TAK-4 suspension on the front axle. Seating for 6 is provided as are 2 forward-facing EMS compartments on each side of the cab. The cab and body are constructed of aluminum, and Gortite roll up compartment doors are part of the body package. A Coleman Mach 8 Roughneck unit mounted on the cab roof above the left side crew door provides auxiliary cooling (15K) and heating (6K) for the cab. SCBA bottle storage is located adjacent to the rear wheel wells on both side of the body. The Pierce Command Zone Advanced Electronics and Control System is also featured.
Power is provided by a 525-hp Detroit DD13 engine and an Allison Fifth Generation 4500 EVS transmission with 6 speeds and pushbutton shifter. An Onan 10-kW generator is mounted below the torque box.
The apparatus has a Hale 8FG single-stage 1,500-gpm pump (midship) and a 300-gallon “L” shaped UPF poly tank. Fifty feet of 5-inch LDH is stored in a compartment adjacent to the pump panel on the driver’s side.
The aerial is a midmount 95-foot heavy duty ladder/platform constructed of steel with a 2,000-gpm waterway. An Elkhart Cobra EXM 7250 monitor and Elkhart SM-1500E nozzle are mounted on the platform. The platform also features Lyfe Attachments for ground ladders, the Stokes basket, and other lifting equipment. Whelen Pioneer PFP1 and PFP2 lights adorn the aerial basket along with Whelen M6 warning lights. A full complement of Duo-Safety ground ladders (45′ 3-section with poles, 35′ 3-section, 28′ 2-section, two 16′ roof ladders, and a 10′ folding) is stored in the torque box along with 16′ roof ladder located behind the left boom panel. A Stokes box is mounted on the right side of the aerial.
The warning lights include a Whelen Freedom IV-D 92 inch light bar and two Whelen Freedom IV-Q 21.5 inch light bars above the crew doors. A Roto Ray is mounted on the cab face. Whelen LED lights (M6, M9, I2SM and WIONSMC) are mounted around the rig exterior. Whelen Model MCFLED2 LED lights are mounted on the upper rear corners at the rear of the truck, and a Whelen TANF65 traffic directing light is mounted above the ladder tunnel door. Scene lighting includes a HiViz Visor LED (model FT-B-72) on the front cab roof adjacent to the light bar, Pioneer PCPSM1 lights mounted on the cab sides behind the crew doors and PCP2AP1 pedestal mounted lights on the cat walks. Audio warning devices include a pedestal mounted Federal Q2B and a Whelen Model 295HFS2 electronic siren module with two Whelen SA314A 100 watt speakers mounted through the front bumper. The traditional fire bell is mounted on the right front bumper corner.
