A Lehigh Township volunteer firefighter was injured Sunday morning after falling from a ladder on a firetruck, according to a social media post from a local fire company, reports mccall.com
Around 10 a.m. Sunday, an unidentified firefighter, about 55 years old, was cleaning a firetruck for Lehigh Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 in preparation for a Labor Day parade. The man was standing on top of a 12-foot-tall unit with a walkway and handrails when he fell onto a paved parking lot below.
While initial radio reports indicated the man fell 20 to 30 feet, Lehigh Township Fire Chief Richard Hildebrand said he fell 12 feet at the most.
The firefighter was seriously injured and was taken to St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill. Officials are withholding his name.
On Sunday evening, Hildebrand said the firefighter, who suffered a head injury, was moving all of his extremities.
