Leatherhead Tools has debuted a new line of fire axes, sledges, forcible entry and demolition bars and fire hooks.
Early last year, Dasco Pro, a maker of quality hand tools founded in 1922 and one of the last remaining hand tool forging companies in the United States, turned its attention to tools being used by fire and rescue personnel.
After visiting several firehouses near its headquarters in Rockford, Ill., company executives decided firefighters, rescue personnel, departments and municipalities wanted innovative tools at a better price.
Dasco Pro believed they could deliver value to an underserved market by developing quality tools using American steel. The company owns a forging plant and a fiberglass facility, giving it the capability to produce a variety of tools, and in a year’s time the company introduced a full line of fire and rescue products named Leatherhead Tools.
The tools are the products of focus groups with firefighters and include features like high visibility orange and lime color handles and reflective striping which helps firefighters see tools on the scene, reducing the number of tools lost or misplaced in smoky and low visibility situations.
