Superior (WI) Fire Department’s Cup Runneth Over with Ladder Trucks

The Superior (WI) Fire Department now has two new aerial ladder trucks, reports superiortelegram.com.

A couple of weeks after the department unveiled its new $1.3 million apparatus, fire officials drove a second 100-foot ladder into town via South Carolina, the report says. The vehicle is the same age as the city’s current backup aerial but has fewer miles, no rust, and an additional 25 feet of ladder.

Having a comparably-sized backup will help the city retain—and possibly even improve—its current ISO insurance rating, the report says.

The apparatus is awaiting a heat shield and snow tires, after which it should be ready for action. Crews have already started training on them, and officials say they should be put into service before the end of 2021.

This most recent ladder will be housed at Station 3 in Superior’s East End, according to the report.
