The Sikeston Department of Public Safety plans to add two fire trucks and replace its main fire station, reports kfvs.com.

One apparatus is a 2002 95-foot ladder, whose purchase was approved by city council last week at a cost of $185,000; its predecessor was recently damaged. The other is a yet-to-be-built engine, the report says.

The previous ladder’s damage did return an insurance settlement, which helped pay for a portion of the new truck, while the city helped out with additional funds, the report says.

In addition, the city has already purchased land to build the new station, which will replace its predecessor that was built in the 1940s.

The ladder is expected to be in service in about a month, while the other apparatus and station are both in their respective planning stage, the report notes.
