Ely (MN) Fire Department Getting Two Apparatus for $470k

The Ely Fire Department will soon have two more fire trucks in its fleet, as city council recently approved the purchase of an E-ONE ladder and engine from a Bloomsburg (PA) department for around $470,000, reports timberjay.com.

Fire officials searched online for replacements for just the department’s 1983 Seagrave ladder, but when their 1979 American LaFrance aerial failed its pump test this year, they had no choice as the company is out of business and replacement parts are difficult to find.

Fortuitously, the Bloomsburg department also had an engine for sale. Ely’s budget committee authorized a bid of $467,485 and that was that, the report notes.

In addition to more capabilities, the new ladder has a 95-foot reach, whereas its predecessor’s is only 75 feet.

No decisions have been made with regards to the old equipment and apparatus.
