Delray Beach (FL) Fire Truck Driver Faces Traffic Citation After Brightline Crash

A citation was issued in connection with the December crash between a Delray Beach Fire Department ladder truck and a Brightline train, according to an investigative report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), cbs12.com reported.

According to PBSO’s 70-page report, the driver of the Delray Beach ladder truck, David Wyatt, was issued a noncriminal traffic citation for the crash after it was found he had violated a Florida Statute Special Hazards which states “he did not use ‘due care’ in that he did not see the oncoming Brightline train as he drove into it’s path,” the report said.

Brightline was found to not be at fault, the crash report states.

On Dec. 28, 2024, Brightline, a high-speed passenger train, collided with a Delray Beach ladder truck at a crossing, injuring three firefighters and at least a dozen train passengers.
