La Motte (IA) Fire Department Raising Funds to Replace Decades-Old Tanker

According to a report from OurQuadCities, the La Motte (IA) Fire & Rescue Department (LMFRD) are fundraising to replace their 41-year-old fire truck.

The LMFRD’s 1980 GMC tanker is one of six fire trucks at the station. Its rusting body, tank, and water pump are what members are describing as, “beyond repair.”

LMFRD Assistant Chief Nick Ludwig said that the cost of a new apparatus could reach $250,000, a large sum for a volunteer department with just 30 members, especially since the LMFRD’s funding is through donations from multiple fundraisers such as omelet breakfasts, campaigns, and steak frys.

The department’s latest fundraising push, made through a Facebook post featuring a photo of the tanker with the station’s Venmo username, is becoming their most successful attempt yet.

Ludwig said that, since the post was made public, the LMFRD has received donations from not just community residents but also those anonymous people from outside their community.
