LA County FD Great Shakeout Earthquake Exercise at Del Valle RegionalTraining Center

The Los Angles County Fire Departments Urban Search and Rescue Team, CA-TF2, will conduct an all day exercise on Thursday, October 20, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Del Valle Regional Training Center in Castaic, California, demonstrating a simulated response to a local earthquake catastrophe with a large number of collapsed structures and people who are trapped. LACoFD’s Urban Search and Rescue Team responded to the Haiti earthquake catastrophe (2010), the New Zealand earthquake (2011), and the Japan earthquake and tsunami catastrophe (2011).

The Los Angeles County Fire Department is proud to be joining more than 8.3 million people throughout California and over 800,000 people in other Western states in the 2011 Great Shakeout earthquake drill on October 20, 2011 at 10:20 a.m. The drill involves people in schools, businesses, organizations, and homes who will simultaneously practice protecting themselves during an earthquake and thereby improve their preparedness plans. The 2011 Shakeout Exercise scenario simulates a magnitude 7.8 earthquake on the San Andreas Fault.
