King George VA Gets Grant for Fire Equipment

The King George Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services received almost $50,000 in a state grant for computers that help first-responders with everything from directions to an incident to reports on patients.

The county received funds to purchase 12 mobile data terminal laptop computers, or MDTs, from the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services. The grant is part of the Virginia Pre-Hospital Information Bridge initiative.

The state office received 219 applications, the most the agency had received for any grant, according to a press release. It awarded $3.4 million in funds to 199 fire and rescue departments in the state.

Unlike some other grants, this one provides 100 percent of the cost and requires no local funding match.
