KIMTEK CORP has recently added to its line of slide-in skid units that fit into many utility 4×4 and 6×6 off road vehicles.

In addition to its MEDLITE Transport, KIMTEK has added FIRELITE Transport Basic and the FIRELITE Transport Water units.

The key to these wildland fire units is quality construction at an affordable cost, according to the maker. KIMTEK CORP President, Kimball Johnson, a volunteer Fire Chief and EMT, says both firefighting units sell for less than $3,000 and both come complete with the Pacer Deluxe Firefighting System. The system consists of a centrifugal pump powered by a 5.5 hp overhead valve engine, 20 feet of 2-inch hard suction with a strainer, 125 feet of 1.5-inch forestry hose and a nozzle.

Each skid unit has a quick disconnect feature on the pump, allowing it to be separated from the main skid unit should the need arise, such as drafting out of a brook or a pond, according to the maker.

The FIRELITE basic model also has a chainsaw compartment and a box for long tools. The water transport version also has an 80-gallon polypropylene tank fully plumbed to the pump.

The water transport unit has space on top of it, with six tie downs so a stokes basket can be secured to it, making it capable of wildland fire operations and rescue functions.

In June, the company introduced the KIMTEK EUV – a complete Emergency Utility Vehicle built on a Polaris Ranger 4×4 or 6×6 chassis in custom red.

It has a complete Whelen Engineering light and siren package, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) style reflective striping package and custom logos and lettering. It also has portable radio holders, scene lighting, a fire extinguisher and MEDLITE or a FIRELITE skid unit installed. It’s available with an optional winch.

Based in Westmore, Vt., KIMTEK has already delivered several EUVs in New York and New Jersey.
