Kiantone (NY) Rolls Out New Fire Apparatus

The Kiantone Fire Department (NY) has rolled out two new pieces of equipment, a rehabilitation trailer and a tanker.

Both vehicles made their debut July 7 at a structure fire in Poland, Kiantone second assistant fire Chief Josh Kibbe said.

The rehab trailer cost around $16,000, and was paid with money in the department’s general account. The trailer’s use can be wide-spread, but likely will come in handy during large fires.

Kibbe said prior to obtaining the trailer, which was purchased in Buffalo, the fire department used the cab of an engine or ambulance for rehabilitation. The trailer may be summoned by other fire departments for use, as was the case in Poland.

Also purchased by the Kiantone Fire Department at a cost of $250,000 was a 2013 Freightliner tanker. Kibbe said the fire truck is able to vacuum water directly into the tanker.
