Pelican Products’ combat-ready 0450 tool chest is available for civilian use.
Originally built for the U.S. military as the General Mechanics Tool Kit (GMTK), the company said the 0450 protects tools even in the most unfavorable conditions.
The 0450’s structural grade, open-cell core, polymer construction has been tested to meet and exceed 96 rigorous military standards including high impact, extreme temperatures and submersion.
The mobile tool case can hold up to 100 pounds of tools with seven removable tool drawers in multiple configurations. The top compartment features a removable utility tray and a lid that opens 180 degrees to create a mobile workspace capable of holding up to 50 pounds.
For security, two standard latches, two hybrid double-throw latches with butterfly compression technology (each capable of withstanding 328 pounds of pulling pressure) and an o-ring in both lids secure the case and maintain its watertight seal.
Tool theft is a challenge thanks to the 0450’s extra large, tamper-resistant, stainless steel padlock protectors, the company said. The case also has automatic pressure equalization valves to make opening it easier while at extreme altitudes by preventing vacuum lock.
Several items to improve mobility complete the 0450’s list of features, including a widened wheelbase to steady a full case during transport, extra thick polyurethane stainless steel ball-bearing wheels for all terrain mobility, and foot pads on the bottom and depressions in the top for easy stacking.
Backed by Pelican’s lifetime guarantee, the suggested retail price for the 0450 starts at $679.95 and can be purchased with or without drawers.
