The Indianapolis Fire Department awarded Ferrara Fire Apparatus a contract to build five new Igniter custom pumpers and one HD-100 rear-mount platform, and Newark, N.J. selected the company to build three pumpers.
Two of the Newark apparatus will be conventional structural engines, and the third will be a foam pumper. All will be built on Ferrara’s Ember custom fire chassis.
President Chris Ferrara said his company’s track record with other large, metropolitan fire departments made it easier for cities such as Newark to select Ferrara.
“We’ve had a string of successes with fire departments in Houston, Indianapolis, Knoxville and New York,” he said. “We’ve got a great combination of high profile, large departments to go along with our traditional customer base.”
When the Indianapolis trucks are delivered, he said the city will have 22 Ferraras in its fleet. The Indianapolis Fire Department operates 42 stations, protecting a population of over 780,000.
