The city council is considering the Hutchinson Fire Department’s request to buy a new multipurpose rescue-pumper that would be shared by the city and townships in the rural fire district. If approved, the truck would be delivered in mid-2016.
As part of the project, the department would sell Engine 3, a 1992 general engine with only firefighting capabilities, as well as Rescue 5, a 2001 Pierce heavy rescue with only rescue capabilities. The new unit would be able to do both jobs. It estimated to cost $579,000, with the city and townships splitting it 50/50. The 2001 rescue truck may bring in $50,000 when sold.
