The Hartford city council met to advance the proposal to rename the Blue Hills firehouse after fallen firefighter Kevin Bell.
At the meeting, the city council forwarded the proposal to the public buildings dedication committee. This is the next step forward to get the fire station renamed in honor of Bell. The public buildings dedication committee, consisting of the Mayor, Council President & Minority Leader will hold a public hearing on the proposal on Nov. 17th.
Bell was killed on October 7th battling a house fire on Blue Hills Avenue. He is the first Hartford firefighter to die in the line of duty in 40 years.
Firefighter Jason Martinez was severely burned battling the same fire. It was announced at the meeting that Martinez has been upgraded to fair condition at Bridgeport Hospital.
