With the outcome of the Missouri Legislature’s veto session now known, the Hannibal City Council approved the purchase of a new fire truck.
The new truck will come from Smeal Fire Apparatus/Leo M. Ellebracht Co., which submitted the lowest of two bids received for the truck at $455,867. A change order not to exceed $9,100 is also part of the proposal.
The Fire Department submitted the low bid and its recommendation to purchase the vehicle in early August. However, the Council voted to table the matter until after the veto session when state lawmakers were to consider whether or not to reinstate a series of sales tax breaks that reportedly could have cost the city of Hannibal over $800,000 in sales tax revenue.
The new truck will not be delivered until 2015, meaning the city’s payments of around $80,000 annually for six years won’t begin until the 2015-16 fiscal year.
